Drive's License

Obtaining a driver's license in Taiwan with a valid domestic driver's license issued by your home country
Services are available to foreigners, based on principles of equality and reciprocity.
Required Documents
With R.O.C. I.D. card
  1. The applicant's R.O.C. ID card (original and photocopy) or Military ID
  2. The foreign driver's license must be authenticated overseas via an embassy or consulate of the Republic of China or Representative Office or other office duly authorized by the R.O.C. Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Or, it should be notarized in Taiwan by that country's embassy, consulate or office and authenticated by the R.O.C. Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
  3. A Chinese translation of a foreign driver's license is required if it is not in English. It must be notarized by the embassy or consulate of the Republic of China, or via the overseas Representative Office, or Liaison Office or official notary public registered in Taiwan, or be authenticated in Taiwan by that country's embassy, consulate or other office which is duly authorized by the R.O.C. Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
  4. Passport and a photocopy of the passport or issuing country's entry/exit record.
  5. Two recent photos with a front view of your face without hat (size 3 cm x 2.5 cm) and taken within the past six months.
  6. The driver's license application form (No. 21) is available from the Motor Vehicles Office or can be downloaded from our website. One photo should be adhered to the form with a medical checkup certificate obtained from any public hospital within the past year.
  7. Application fee: NTD 200
With R.O.C. I.D. card, but no registered address in Taiwan
  1. An Alien Resident Certificated (ARC) with over one year of remaining validity (original and photocopy required).
  2. The other required documents are the same as listed above.
No R.O.C. ID card, but with Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) with over one year of remaining validity

  2. An Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) with a remaining validity for over one year (original and photocopy required).

Attention
  1. To apply for a heavy duty motorcycle (above 250cc) driver's license, please visit our website (http://tpcmv.thb.gov.tw). You should provide an authenticated training certificate for over 32 or 43 hours by the issuing country and pass a physical checkup test before exchanging your driver's license.
  2. If the former driver's license was invalidated or withdrawn for any reason, one can not longer exchange for a local driver's license anymore.
  3. A physical checkup test is required if you wish to exchange license using a Japanese driver's license.
